The Ultimate Family Safari Packing List (What Parents Forget)
The Hard-to-Find Items
You can buy sunscreen in Nairobi. But these items? Bring them with you.
Must-Have Items
| Item | Why You Need It |
|---|---|
| Comfort Snacks | Goldfish/Cheerios are hard to find. Bring their favorites. |
| Downloaded Content | WiFi exists, but streaming Netflix can be slow. Download iPads BEFORE you leave. |
| Binoculars (Kid Size) | If they can't see, they get bored. Get cheap 8x21 binoculars. |
| Warm Fleece | Mornings are 12C (53F). Kids get cold in open cars. |
Clothing Strategy
Layering is key.
6:00 AM: Winter Coat + Beanie
10:00 AM: T-Shirt
6:00 PM: Fleece
Don't worry about buying special "Safari Khaki" clothes for kids. Bright colors are generally fine inside a vehicle (animals don't care), though avoid bright blue/black if Tsetse flies are present (ask us!).

Plastic Ban: Kenya has a strict ban on single-use plastic bags. Do not pack shoes/laundry in Ziploc bags or grocery bags. You can be fined at the airport.
