About Kitumo Mara Lodges

Experience luxury in the heart of Masai Mara's Nashulai Conservancy

The Masai Mara

The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa's most magnificent game reserves. Bordering Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, the Mara is famous for its exceptional population of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and its annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration.

The reserve is named in honor of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, and their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara," which means "spotted" in the local Maa language, due to the many short bushy trees which dot the landscape.
